7 Things Concerning Christ in the Book of Philippians

The following is from the works of F.E. Marsh, a study series coming soon to the BLB.

1. Day of Christ… Yet to come.

“so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ” (Philippians 1:10).

2. Gospel of Christ… To be preached.

“Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel” (Philippians 1:27).

3. Work of Christ… Our employment.

“for he nearly died for the work of Christ, risking his life to complete what was lacking in your service to me” (Philippians 2:30).

4. Knowledge of Christ… Our assurance.

“Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ” (Philippians 3:8).

5. Faith of Christ… Our study.

“and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith” (Philippians 3:9).

6. Apprehended of Christ… Our security.

“Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own” (Philippians 3:12).

7. Cross of Christ… Our suffering.

“For many, of whom I have often told you and now tell you even with tears, walk as enemies of the cross of Christ” (Philippians 3:18).
