Fullness in Christ

The following has been adapted from the devotionals of F.E. Marsh, a new resource coming soon to the Blue Letter Bible!

When Christ gave His disciples a draught of fishes He gave them such a supply that the boats were filled (Luke 5:6-7). Christ never gives with a miserly hand; there is sure to be a surplus when He gives. In fact, when He fed the five thousand people there were baskets full over!

Here are a few ways in which Christ gives in fullness:

Fullness of blessing to enrich us.

I know that when I come to you I will come in the fullness of the blessing of Christ.
(Romans 15:29)

Fullness of Grace to bless us.

For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace.
(John 1:16).

Fullness of Joy to gladden us.

These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.
(John 15:11).

Fullness of the Spirit to empower us.

…be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart
(Ephesians 5:18-19

Fullness of God to sanctify us.

and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
(Ephesians 3:19)

And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding
(Colossians 1:19)

For in him [Jesus] the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, and you have been filled in him, who is the head of all rule and authority.
(Colossians 2:10)

Fullness of Faith to assure us.

let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
(Hebrews 10:22)

Fullness of Himself to satisfy us.

And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherd and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes.
(Ephesians 4:11-14)

What about you? Can you think of other ways the Bible speaks of our fullness in God through Christ?
