Abounding

The following has been adapted from the commentaries of F.E. Marsh, coming soon to theĀ Blue Letter Bible.

To abound means to be rich or well supplied; to be filled.

Here are 7 ways in which the Christian abounds, according to Scripture:

1. Abound in HOPE.

Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.
(Romans 15:13 KJV)

2. Abound in LOVE.

And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment;
(Philippians 1:9 KJV)

3. Abound in FAITH.

Therefore, as ye abound in every thing, in faith, and utterance, and knowledge, and in all diligence, and in your love to us, see that ye abound in this grace also.
(2 Corinthians 8:7 KJV)

4. Abound in our WALK.

Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more.
(1 Thessalonians 4:1 KJV)

5. Abound in GRACE.

For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
(2 Peter 1:8 KJV)

6. Abound in every GOOD WORK.

And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work
(2 Corinthians 9:8 KJV)

7. Abound in SUFFERING.

For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ.
(2 Corinthians 1:5 KJV)

Can you think of any other ways in which the Christian abounds?
