It’s More than Just Memorizing for These Brothers…
Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You.
Psalm 119:11 NKJV
What a joy it is for us to witness the awe-inspiring ways the Lord uses His Word to penetrate our hearts. During 2015, Blue Letter Bible had the opportunity to come alongside the National Bible Bee and help provide tools for students participating in their summer study program. We then attended the National Conference in November, where we met two brothers, Everett (14) and Jarrett (12)–both had memorized about 800 Bible verses in preparation for the contest. They are avid users of the BLB study tools and told us they particularly like all the Bible dictionaries, and the Interlinear for bringing clarity to Greek and Hebrew word studies.
Recently, these boys and their mother joined us for a staff devotional. Frankly, we were astonished at their level of biblical comprehension. They verbalized some spiritual benefits of studying the Gospel of John for the Bible Bee:
Everett said, “It has been very rewarding to memorize and study this part of Scripture…it has helped me to cultivate a love for God and His Word, to internalize it in my heart, meditate on it, and ultimately apply it to my spiritual walk.”
Jarrett said, “I never imagined that there could be so much application to the Gospel of John, like being humble and showing compassion to those in need.”
Testimonies of young lives being impacted by the in-depth study of God’s Word is at the very core of Blue Letter Bible’s ministry and mission. These brothers work hard and enjoy the challenges of competing, but more importantly they recognize the eternal value of having God’s Word hidden in their heart—incidentally, they placed 3rd and 17th among thousands of Bible Bee contestants.
We love to hear from Blue Letter Bible users about how God is using BLB in your lives and ministry. How has God used BLB in your discipleship and teaching? How have you been personally ministered to through a deeper study of God’s Word? If you’d like to share your story, simply fill out our online form and submit at: BlueLetterBible.org/yourstory.
