What’s New on the Blue
Take advantage of the time-tested, Bible-based instruction found in creeds, catechisms, and confessions.
Historically, the creeds, catechisms, and confessions have been of immense spiritual benefit for Christians. To be sure, these documents do not replace the authority of Scripture itself; but because of their sound biblical teachings, they continue to aid us as much today as they did for our forefathers in centuries past. Creeds (from the Latin word “credo” which means “I believe”) are miniature statements of faith; summaries of core beliefs. Catechisms are manuals of Christian doctrine, written in a question-and-answer format with many supporting verse references. Confessions are written in essay style and organized according to subject, complete with verse proofs to reinforce your study of God’s word.
At Blue Letter Bible we try to maintain a balanced perspective of traditional Orthodox Christianity for all of our users. The recently added selection of Creeds, Catechisms, and Confessions include:
Creeds
Catechisms
- Heidelberg Catechism of 1563
- A Scripture Catechism (Matthew Henry)
- A Plain Catechism for Children (Matthew Henry)
- A Short Catechism about the Lord’s Supper (Matthew Henry)
- A Puritan Catechism with Proofs (C.H. Spurgeon)
Confessions
We trust these resources will serve you well. Check out the Creeds, Catechisms, and Confessions page on Blue Letter Bible today!

July 23, 2013 at 6:09 amThis is valuable information to have available in one place. Comparing these against the “authority of Scripture” to see if they truly are “sound biblical teachings” is a requirement for all Believers. Can we just accept these teachings as truth because we are told they are?
Many years of use does not qualify traditions as TRUTH. Much of this material comes to us visa vi RCC… so who will we (Brazil) bend our knee to?

July 25, 2013 at 3:00 amPrayerfully, may these documents lead to a closer examination of the Word of God. Personally, the mode of Creeds is contrary to awareness. They are imprinted, rehearsed rather than spirit filled.

July 23, 2013 at 9:18 amCorrect me if I’m wrong. What you’re trying to relay in this comment would be – If we are obedient, then we won’t succumb to false teaching?
