From the pen of F.E. Marsh, whose works are coming soon to the BLB.
Here are just a few things we are to do with the word of God:
1. Receive the Word with meekness, and thus be saved—by grace—from all wickedness.
“…receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls” (James 1:21).
2. Let it dwell in us richly, that we may teach one another and break forth in praise.
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God” (Colossians 3:16).
3. Keep it, and thus have His love perfected in us.
“but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him” (1 John 2:5).
4. Continue in it, that it may be manifest that we are His disciples indeed, not counterfeit Christians.
“So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed in him, ‘If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples’” (John 8:31).
5. Hold it fast, that God may be able to use our witness to rebuke those who don’t walk in holiness.
“He must hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also to rebuke those who contradict it” (Titus 1:9).
6. Be doers of it, and not deceive ourselves by thinking that hearing is enough without the doing.
“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves” (James 1:22).
7. Speak it out boldly, that the Lord may be honoured by our witness.
“And most of the brothers, having become confident in the Lord by my imprisonment, are much more bold to speak the word without fear” (Philippians 1:14).
8. Hold it forth faithfully, by living it out truly, and not vainly.
“holding fast to the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain” (Philippians 2:16).
What about you? Would you add anything else to this list?

January 22, 2013 at 8:33 amPraise God! Thank you Chris.
I would like to add.
‘Step out in faith and be willing to see the Holy Spirit lead in it (the Word).’
Luke 9.30 The man answered and said to them, “Why, this is a marvelous thing, that you do not know where He (Jesus) is from; yet He has opened my eyes.”
A wonderful display of the Holy Spirit’s empowering. A man blind from birth, likely at the bottom of his society at the time, but having come into a real experience in relationship to the Lord Jesus by faith. This man without any formal training it would seem, grew from a timid person to one fearless and with a wisdom that confounded the Pharisees, the leaders of his people. All it took was that one step in obedience and the Lord Jesus enabled the rest. His eyes were opened both to Spirit and physically.
