Abounding

Posted on September 10, 2012 Posted by Blue Letter Bible

The following has been adapted from the commentaries of F.E. Marsh, coming soon to the Blue Letter Bible.

To abound means to be rich or well supplied; to be filled.

Here are 7 ways in which the Christian abounds, according to Scripture:

1. Abound in HOPE.

Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.
(Romans 15:13 KJV)

2. Abound in LOVE.

And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment;
(Philippians 1:9 KJV)

3. Abound in FAITH.

Therefore, as ye abound in every thing, in faith, and utterance, and knowledge, and in all diligence, and in your love to us, see that ye abound in this grace also.
(2 Corinthians 8:7 KJV)

4. Abound in our WALK.

Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more.
(1 Thessalonians 4:1 KJV)

5. Abound in GRACE.

For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
(2 Peter 1:8 KJV)

6. Abound in every GOOD WORK.

And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work
(2 Corinthians 9:8 KJV)

7. Abound in SUFFERING.

For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ.
(2 Corinthians 1:5 KJV)

Can you think of any other ways in which the Christian abounds?

Dummy, quite a number of people have asked you very nicely to change your screen name, and you have completely ignored them. Nobody is this ignorant. Let’s not try to fool anyone anymore; you are obviously an atheist happily smearing indecency on this website like a monkey with a handful of poo. You are most likely a miserable loner with very little to occupy your life. Go elsewhere, write something else, you miserable little troll. I had to put up with nonsense like this for 12 years in the military, but not here. I shouldn’t have to read your inane little comments while I am looking for something worthwhile. Frankly, I’m surprised (and a little disappointed) that Blueletterbible.org hasn’t deleted your comments.

    PHL 4:12
I know both how to be abased and I know how to abound
everywhere and in all things I am instructed
both to be full and to be hungry
both to abound and suffer need.

    2PET 1:5-9
And beside this giving all diligence
add to your faith virtue and to virtue
    knowledge and to knowledge temperance
and to temperance patience and to patience
godliness and to godliness brotherly kindness
    and to brotherly kindness charity.
For if these things be in you and abound
they make you neither barren nor unfruitful
In the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
