This has been adapted from the commentaries of F.E. Marsh, coming soon to the Blue Letter Bible.
Have you ever noticed the theme of “peace” woven throughout the book of Isaiah?
- Prince of Peace. “and his name shall be called . . . . Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6).
- Perpetuity of Peace. “Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end” (Isaiah 9:7).
- Perfection of Peace. “You keep him in perfect peace” (Isaiah 26:3).
- Power of Peace. “O LORD, you will ordain peace for us” (Isaiah 26:12).
- Possessor of Peace. “let them make peace with me” (Isaiah 27:5).
- Parent of Peace. “And the effect of righteousness will be peace” (Isaiah 32:17).
- Promise of Peace. “There will be peace and security in my days” (Isaiah 39:8).
- Provider of Peace. “I make peace” (Isaiah 45:7).
- Partner of Peace. “Then your peace would have been like a river” (Isaiah 48:18).
- Publisher of Peace. “…who publishes peace…” (Isaiah 52:7).
- Permanence of Peace. “and my covenant of peace shall not be removed” (Isaiah 54:10).
- Price of Peace. “upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace” (Isaiah 53:5).
- Preciousness of Peace. “and great shall be the peace of your children” (Isaiah 54:13).
- Progress of Peace. “For you shall go out in joy and be led forth in peace” (Isaiah 55:12).
- Prospect of Peace. “he enters into peace” (Isaiah 57:2).
- Proclamation of Peace. “Peace, peace to the far and to the near” (Isaiah 57:19).
- Picture of Peace. “Behold, I will extend peace to her like a river” (lxvi. 12).

August 27, 2012 at 9:50 amWhat A Glorious Peace our LORD offers.
The promises of Peace are incrediable in Isaiah.
His promises of Peace and Rest in the whole bible are wonderful.
Peace is one of His greatest promises and gifts to us.
We live in a world that rings of Absolute Chaos most of the time, so to enter into His Peace and Rest in this world is such an Honor and such a Glorious Gift.
It’s also a awesome place to be.
We know we are in His Presense when His Peace rests upon us and our home. People often make comments about it when they visit.
It doesn’t matter if the world has gone crazy we are at Rest and Peace.
It is quite, calm, loving, and His Spirit’s Presense permeates the air. We love to take it in with each breathe we take.
We call it our promised land, our promise of rest.
It was quite the job for us to get it personally. We as a family really had to let Him clean us, scrub our wounds, wash our hands, teach our minds, and accept his love ,but once we did and this Peace was given and you never want to leave it ever again.
Now it’s our meter on where we are with Him. One or Separate, I know if I allow my peace to be stolen or if I lose it myself, its not good.
It is a place of absolute oneness, wholeness, and safety like a child in thier fathers arms resting upon his shoulder. No matter where he walks the child is at peace.
I personally seek it every day of my life. We pray to enter into it almost everyday as a family.
May we all find His Peace Today. Shalom My Friends. Be Blessed and Loved by Our Great Father.

August 28, 2012 at 6:37 amHow clever of the author to contrive to have all those points beginning with the letter “P”. Isaiah was a prophet of God (another “p”!) moved by the Holy Spirit to proclaim (another one!) the truth, will, plan and purpose (2 more!) of the Almighty God. But, strictly speaking, peace is not in Isaiah!
The promises of peace that Isaiah declared, God has fulfilled. The first point, Isaiah 9:6, is the only key to all the other written peace points. JESUS is the Prince of Peace! All of the other proclamations of the prophets (and any other God-inspired writers), are fulfilled only in JESUS, the Prince of Peace. Whatever promises we haven’t seen yet, we will see them, either in this life or in the presence of the Lord, because Jesus declared the plan of God is finished! We are not still looking for peace, saints. We know how God destroys the world.
Jesus has caused only those who are justified by faith to have peace with God, reconciliation, no judgement with the world or its condemnation. (Romans 5:1 KJV) JESUS is the Mighty God, the everlasting Father. The Holy Spirit’s instruction to us to maintain that peace is found in Philippians 4:6,7 KJV)
Phl 4:6 (NLT) Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.
Phl 4:7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
Let us not get hung up on the letter of the word, the clever turn of phrase, the prettiness, poetry or symmetry of the words. Those superficial things may be aesthetically pleasing, but they are not life. Let us enter into the Spiritual reality of God’s words.
We are admonished that we have been made effective ministers of the new testament; not of the letter [not the old], but of the spirit: for the letter kills [is soulish, mental, vain, dead], but the spirit gives life [Spirit of Christ]. (2 Corinthians 3:6 NLT)
Isaiah points us to Jesus. (John 5:39, 40 NLT) Let us give diligence to learn to worship the living God in our spirits! We who are born of Him must worship Him in our spirits and in truth. (John 4:22, 24 KJV)
