(yeh-ho-vaw’ tsid-kay’-noo)
The Lord Our Righteousness

Use in the Bible: In the Old Testament Jehovah Tsidkenu occurs 2 times. Jehovah Tsidkenu is first used in Jer 23:6.

Variant spellings: Jehovah Tzidkaynu; Jehovah Tsidqenuw

TWOT Reference: None

Strong’s Reference: 3072

Jehovah Tsidkenu in the Septuagint: kuriou tou theou hêmôn elalêsen pros hêmas…the Lord our God spoke to us

Meaning and Derivation

Jehovah is translated as “The Existing One” or “Lord.” The chief meaning of Jehovah is derived from the Hebrew word Havah meaning “to be” or “to exist.” It also suggests “to become” or specifically “to become known” – this denotes a God who reveals Himself unceasingly. Tsedek (tseh’-dek), from which Tsidkenu derived, means “to be stiff,” “to be straight,” or “righteous” in Hebrew. When the two words are combined…Jehovah Tsidkenu…it can be translated as “The Lord Who is our Righteousness.”

Further references of the name Jehovah Tsidkenu in the Old Testament: Jer 23:6; Jer 33:16

What a great truth: The Lord is our Righteousness.
Also a great witnessing point: We can never be “good enough” (to merit heaven, to earn God’s favor, etc.)so any & everyone must look to the Lord Jesus for their righteousness.

YHWH with the word God is YHWH Elohim in Hebrew; It means “YHWH our God” and identifies which god it is that you serve. We serve the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

Here is a bit more on the tetragrammaton or YHWH. It means literally “I AM”.

God who is saying to us in Exodus 3:14 that He Is!

There is quite a larger revelation in this permanent name for God. He is, He has been, He will always be and He causes all things to be (exist).

Just as the name Yahweh Tsidkenu reveals to us God is our righteousness so the name YWHW reveals more to us about God’s nature.

There are many names that God has applied to Himself to show mankind His unfolding nature and to help us realize how greatly AWESOME He is!

        Question:
Why do some people use the word Jehovah and some YHWH or Yahweh?

        Answer:
The word Jehovah came into existence after the name Yahweh to anglicize it and the original Hebrew language did not have vowels either. Most Bible scholars will say YHWH or Yahweh is the historical name of God.
The combining of YHWH with the vowels from Hebrew word Adonai (meaning Lord, master) is how scholars have given the word YHWH the supplied vowels needed to pronounce the word. More can be gathered for a Wikipedia reference here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jehovah

As we have been learning these past few months there are multiple names that bring to light who God is to mankind. Here are a list of them, there meanings and a scripture reference. Please note: Bible Translators use the word lord in all capital letters (LORD) when the name of God (YHWH) appears in a Bible verse.

        JEHOVAH-MACCADDESHEM…….Exodus 31:13
        meaning “The Lord thy sanctifier”

        JEHOVAH-ROHI……Psalm 23:1
        meaning “The Lord my shepherd”

        JEHOVAH-SHAMMAH…….Ezekiel 48:35
meaning “The Lord who is present”

        JEHOVAH-RAPHA………Exodus 15:26
        meaning “The Lord our healer”

        JEHOVAH-TSIDKENU……Jeremiah 23:6
        meaning “The Lord our righteousness”

        JEHOVAH-JIREH………Genesis 22:13-14
        meaning “The Lord will provide”

        JEHOVAH-NISSI………Exodus 17:15
        meaning “The Lord our banner”

        JEHOVAH-SHALOM……..Judges 6:24
        meaning “The Lord is peace”

        JEHOVAH-GMOLAH……..Jeremiah 51:6
        meaning “The God of Recompense”

        EL-ELYON…………..Genesis 14:17-20,Isaiah 14:13-14
        meaning “The most high God

        EL-ROI…………….Genesis 16:13
meaning “The strong one who sees”

        EL-SHADDAI…………Genesis 17:1, Psalm 91:1
meaning “The God of the mountains or God Almighty”

        EL-OLAM……………Isaiah 40:28-31
        meaning “The everlasting God”

As you can see our God is awesomely amazing in that He Is (I AM) thee almighty one, the one who sees all things, our righteousness, our healer, peace and provider and much more!

Don’t you just Love HIM for that! What an incredible being He Is!

Our righteousness is as filthy rags Isaiah 64:6 and we are lost without our God and His perfect son Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ was the perfect lamb sacrifice for our sins. His blood covers our unrighteousness through our measure of faith and belief in it.

Let us thank Yahweh for ALL He has done! Amen?

        Amen!

Your servant and brother in Agape (love),

No J or V in Hebrew.Jehovah tsdikinu Should be rendered as YaHuWaH Tsidkinu. Elohim doesn’t mean god, it actually means mighty ones and is sometimes a title ascribed to mere men. It is the plural form of El which means mighty one. More and more people are dropping the traditions of our forefathers and are calling on our Creator as YaHuWaH. HalleluYaH!!

YHWH’s unmerited favour (grace)is what saves us and I am so grateful. Our father also wants us to know Him personnally and intimately, and to worship Him in spirit AND truth. For this reason I agree with Jason that we do right by Him by looking at the traditions we have come to accept without question. Praise His name!

I asked father one time what name I was to call him by and he said “I AM” so he is YHWH to me and I am YHWH’s.

YHWH is my daddy! Yeshua is my King & Savior!
Ruach HaKodesh is my teacher & comforter!

I do love that the Holy Spirit has brought his name back to life so he’s not some far off distant GOD with no personal realtionship to us.

I was asked by a life long christain one time, when I said my father told me something, if I was talking about God, I pray they get personal with him like all of us. He really loves us to walk with him like Enoch did…..

You are right Steve, he wants relationships with us.

Think about this, how do you feel when someone says your name verses saying hey you ? It’s intimate and personal when someone says my name verses just speaking without saying my name. You are right Praise be His Name

“I AM THAT I AM” being the same name He said to Moses in Exd 3:14 when Moses ask that very important question.

Now, I’m no Hebrew scholar at all, I rely heavily on Strong’s and other Bible dictionary as study tools…but mainly, like yourself, the Ruach HaKodesh to my teacher.

If you look up “I AM” in the Strong’s it’ll refer you to the word “AM” which is #1961 [hayah]; to exist, be or become, come to pass… Other Hebrew translation helps translates “I AM [or] I Will Be” as Ahayah Asher Ahayah [I AM that I AM].
Seeing that the letter “J” is a modern letter to the ancient sound of the letter “Y” I personally find it not necessary to translate to modern Latin or English as sometimes you can not translate a word from one language to another…in this case just pronounce it as its suppose to be.

As with tetragrammaton of the word YHWH, as the Jewish religion teaches that it [Father’s name] is to sacred to pronounce however, according to Scripture, Exd 9:16 and Rom 9:17 clearly tells us that “my name” maybe declared throughout all the earth.

That being said, we [as believers] must know find out “why” is it that many who claims to love the Father hasn’t sort His name? Why has it been removed out of Scripture? Who doesn’t want us to know the only name which we are saved by and have the power to destroy our enemies…hmmmmm!!!!

First, start by praying and faster and called upon the Ruach HaKodesh to show you the way, then “study” this is an action word folks…you must step out and perform your due diligence in order to be led by the Spirit to truth. Truth, like a treasure has been hidden, found by those who seek it.

Then, start by really looking at the Hebrew name Jehovah..first Jeh, or Yah meaning “god” then hovah [#1943 and a form of #1942] then study the religion who calls upon this name as their god.

      Peace be in this house.

The letter J is a mistake and the adn vowels were never intended to sound the consonates.

As the english writing system evolved no spelling changes were made as the pronunciation of letter(s) changed. When the holy spirit spoke in different languages they heard it in their own language and may have even included differing accents and dialects and most certainly would not have violated their grammer rulers. In other words the name Jehovah is not a product of holy spirit and never a word or name in Hebrew and is made and accepted by man as Gods personnel name. The true God of the heavens takes in to account the time of persons ignorance but persistance in a wrong course will result in ca·lam·i·ty.

Think of it like this, the hebrews believed that the earth was flat and was inclosed with a hard shell around it kinda like a snow globe but Isiah stated it was a circle and today, we know because of 3 point GPS and imagery that it isn’t flat. Today, the claim that the earth is flat is a claim of ignorance.

In respect to the learner/reader, Let’s look at the whole meaning of Jehovah as define in Strong’s concordance, Jehovah is #3068 [yeh-ho-vaw]; from 1961; (the) self-Existent or Eternal; Jehovah, Jewish national name of God:–Jehovah, the Lord. Comparable to 3050, 3069.

#3068 tells us that Jehovah is the name of god of [those] who practice Judaism i.e.[Jews]. The name Jews, or Jewish, is NOT a heritage of a people, it’s a religion. Ancient Israelites, from the seed of Judah, would have been called “Judahites” not Jews and the Judahites did not have their own religion…that I can trace. If you have knowledge [from Scripture] please do let me know as I will certainly look at it as it is the Holy Spirit that gives discernment and Father who gives Wisdom. He commands us is to “study to shew ourselves approved”…there’s a reason He commands this of us. What might you think that is?

Also, Yahshuah [known to the world as Jesus] did not come to establish a new religion, including christianity and all forms of catholicism…matter of fact He didn’t come into the flesh to establish “religion” at all…that’s your first clue if you are practicing any religion…find out its origin…because it will have one…than test it against Scripture..in order to do that you must know the Scriptures…He left them [His Letters] for you.

    Peace be unto this house.

      Monica~

Actually, the word “Jew” does have its origins in the tribe of Judah. I copied the following from Wikipedia:

“The term Jew originates in the Biblical Hebrew word Yehudi meaning “from the Tribe of Judah”, “from the Kingdom of Judah, or “Jew”. This was translated into the Greek Ioudaios and Latin Iudaeus, from which the Old French giu was derived after dropping the letter “d”, and later became the English word Jew.”

The other issue of exactly who or what a Jew is a matter of great debate, and it is not clearly defined, even among Jews. There is a great website, “Judaism 101” that has a lot of information about everything Jewish. Click on the ‘Ideas’ link at the top and the first entry on the menu discusses this issue.

      God bless you
      Barbara

Further more, the Greek transliterated word “Ioudaios” is interpreted by the translators of the NT to have several different meanings depending on the content and/or intent of the translator. Very similar to our English/American word “Yankee”. The geographic location and/or people group change with its usage and its usage is a valid one in each case. For instance, Yankee being said by someone overseas or across the boarder of US can represent the entire nation. Within the US border it can represent the northern half of the eastern section. To the northern half of the eastern section it can represent the northeast most region and within that region it can be broken down further. Ioudaios and its tenses can be used to represent the tribe of Judah, the southern half of the divided nation, the nation as a whole and the people of that nation or those regions described. All of this can cause confusion and has caused confusion with intention and without intention to service any particular doctrine the translator may or may not want to portray. The use of interpretation by context of verse, passage, chapter, section, writer, book as a whole by the reader can clear our understanding. Oh yes, along with the help of the “Ruach HaKodesh”.

        Shalom Barbara,

Great job for even taking the time to search.
The word “Jew” is traceable yes, indeed but only if you are interested in finding its origin you must seek in many other [primary history] “beyond” wikipedia [which is a good recent source] to begin a search…not end one.

Yes, again if one is relating the use of the name/title Jews to the ancient Hebrew Israelites then ones “nationality” must be of the tribe Judah [Yahudites], from the seed of Jacob/Israel, from the seed of Shem.

Again, Strong’s tells us, “not I” that that #3068; Jehovah is the name of the Jewish national God. And to be Jewish is to practice a religion call “Judaism” it is not a nationality. Scripture does record the religion, Judaism. Let’s take a look at the group who does consider themselves Jewish who practice Judaism [which only a small portion of “Jews” are religious..the vast majority, in Israel are atheist/secular] this is a fact and is easily traceable.

Now, lets look at the nationality of those who calls themselves Jews, they are called Ashkenazi. Is that name familiar? Lets go to Gen 10:1-5 show us that the Ashkenazi’s are the decendents of Japheth [not Shem], whom Moses went on to tell us that Japheth’s seed went on to populate the isles of the Gentles [known to us today as European].

Now, I only seek after truth not what I was told traditionally. First one must rightly divide His Word in truth, seek His Face and be guided by Ruach HaKodesh who gives ears to hear and eyes to see..we don’t give understanding to ourselves…nor has anyone, who know me “ever” called me prideful or arrogance as people who know me know that I only seek after truth..only care that my path be guided by my Heavenly Father, not by tradition, nor by what’s politically correct, nor by what’s popular…and even if I have to stand alone. People who “know” me know that I care about their salvation as they seek to work it out…my heart aches as I see those who turn a blinds eye and follow after tradition only.

History is there…you must go find it…dig pass all the deception and I tell you written deception goes back thousands of years that’s why you must be guided by the Ruach HaKodesh…even our Scripture [constant revisions and rewrites] have substituted the name of our Heavenly Father to the point most who call upon Him do not even know His TRUE name, or substituted His Son’s name [Yahshuah] for a greek/latin name and have substituted the name Jews where the name Hebrews ought to be.

        Peace be in this place.

            Helen,

Ruach HaKodesh is the Hebrew way of saying Holy Spirit.

            Ruach = Spirit
HaKodesh = ‘the’ Holy or Set-apart (One)

As it is with different languages, the word order often differs. Hope this helps!

Anything on the NAMES of GOD is greatly appreciated here! It is an AWESOME THING to know His Name…to be introduced to it, and to be able to search it out! Some are zealous over it…some are leery of it because of those who may claim to come in His Name, sometimes not exuding His Character.

A little something that was on my heart:
One can know the truth and share it in humility…
Another can know the truth and share it in pride…
May we each strive, through His Strength, to be the former.

We are not the judges. YHWH ELOHIM, CREATOR of the WHOLE UNIVERSE is the JUDGE!!! May all our exhortations be done in humility and grace. B’shem Y’shua, Blessings of Truth & Peace to all.

There is “…a time to keep silence, and a time to speak” (Ecclesiastes 3:7b).

It is very important to keep things in context, perhaps most especially in regards to scripture. 1 Cor. 6 is talking about fornication… In this blog, it seems that the question is being brought forth as to whether someone is right in attitude or not in the eyes of God; whether they are sharing knowledge to show off, or because they are zealous to share His Beautiful Truth, and the nuggets learned through deeper study. Yes, we must sometimes ‘judge’ others’ actions, but the heart matters are best left elsewhere.

“For it is written, ‘As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.’ So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God. Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumbling block or an occasion to fall in his brother’s way.” (Romans 14:11-13)

May we always endeavor to speak that which is edifying to the hearers, as we are commanded in Ephesians 4:29.

    Shalom.

    Rachel,

I agree with you our responses. When I was a brand new baby, Father had not yet reveiled the deeper truths of some scriptures yet to me and when he would give me scriptures some I would take literally for myself and wow was that painful. I got Hosea once and asked an elder if God was calling me a Harlot, all they said was that’s a harsh word. Wow, I cried for 8+ hours thinking God was rejecting me. Thier Wisdom lacked Love and caused my heart to break that day.

I actually thought God was me really hard on me at times. I now have later learned the LEADS, He does not PUSH. His love is gentle and kind.

For me to learn to keep quite was difficult and to speak only when the spirit releases me to speak, share, debate. He had to bring it home to me with conviction in the following scriptures. My toungue or fingers had to be bridled, and I had to yield to his will not mine. I had to choose his word or my opinion.

James 3:1-3 and then James 3:17-18 brought it home.

Let not many of you become teachers, my brethren, knowing that as such we will incur a stricter judgment.

Jam 3:2 For we all stumble in many ways. If anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body as well.

Jam 3:3 Now if we put the bits into the horses’ mouths so that they will obey us, we direct their entire body as well.

Jam 3:17 But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without hypocrisy.

“I looked up the side note on “resonable” and it said “willing to yield” That really changed my perspective and behavior when God showed me that part.

Jam 3:18 And the seed whose fruit is righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.

    Shalom my Sister & Brother.

May the LORD of All Wisdom & Love touch each of hearts and mouths to Edify each other and build each other up in one body as that is our purpose. Amen.
