Let Us Adore Him Who Is Able

Posted on March 29, 2012 Posted by Blue Letter Bible

Now to him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you without blemish before the presence of his glory with rejoicing, to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and for ever. Amen.
(Jude 24,25)

This doxology from Jude is a wonderful way to praise the Lord! It is good to meditate upon when adoring Him in praise, for it gives us a few primary reasons for praise. It produces thankful hearts.

There is a great danger and great safety introduced to us in the Book of Jude. The great danger is falling into sinfulness. The great safety is none other than God’s divine ability and faithfulness, by which we are kept from stumbling so as to dishonor our Lord.

Let us consider three reasons to adore this faithful God and Savior, using our text from Jude 24-25.

1. Let us adore Him who can keep us from falling.

verse 24: “Now to him who is able to keep ou from falling…”

Apart from the Holy Spirit and His fruits, we are so prone toward error—error in doctrine, spirit, and duty. We are prone toward sinfulness and backsliding. But as this text explains, “Now to him who is able to keep you…” God alone can keep us from falling, and we cannot keep ourselves without Him. There is no place or religious activity that guarantees security: not the church, not the prayer closet, not the communion table… nothing. No rules or regulations will secure us from stumbling. Only the Lord our God can do it. He alone “is able”, and He alone is our “only God, our Savior.”

2. Let us adore Him who will present us in His courts faultless.

verse 24: “Now to him who is able to…present you without blemish before  the presence of his glory with rejoicing…”

None can stand before the presence of the Lord who are covered with fault. Nor can anyone deliver us from guilt of past sins or keep us from future sins—only the Savior Himself. And not only can this Savior do it, but He does! And what’s even more amazing than that is face that He does so “with rejoicing.” He is not an indifferent Savior. He is not a detached Savior. Our Savior is one who rejoices in His saving work. Amazing, isn’t it?

3. Let us adore Him with the highest ascriptions of praise.

verse 25: “…to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever.”

We ascribe all glory and praise to our Triune God through Jesus Christ, who Himself is our Lord, King, and Mediator. We wish Him glory above all, for His glory outlives the fading glory of men (1 Peter 1:25). We wish Him majesty above all for He is the King of Kings. We ascribe to Him dominion and power for all things have been placed under His care.  And in all of our praise, we are merely joining the eternal song of worship for He has been ascribed all these things “before all time and now and forever.”

His ABILITY must match with commensurate RESPONSE ability from me. Abel was a keeper of sheep, HOW MUCH MORE this One greater than Abel (Heb.12:24). So, walk on by faith. Explode into worship.
The Psalmist says,” God hath spoken ONCE; TWICE have I heard this; that power belongeth to God” Ps.62:11. POWER wash, POWER worship! Then the foursome, ” NOW the just shall live by faith” (Heb.10:38) must echo in our ears alongside the cautionary quartet ” HARDEN NOT”. Lord, you are able to keep us soft with your rain. “The God of Glory thundereth” Ps.29. Echo..ability? Amen.

They sank like lead, sin, corruption,is the heaviest thing in the world. Redeem your sin coupons, sin city coupons! We exchange our back-breaking heavy load for the all-sufficient backpack of a trekker when we put on Jesus Christ.
It was the start of a new school year and I casually asked a teacher how she’d spent the Summer. She said that she was scuba diving in Lake Michigan. Being asked about the hidden dangers and discoveries, she set off with SHARKS & STINGRAYS….Then came the news of a surfer killed by stingray in Florida.
We are scuba divers (Eze.47:5) with our All-sufficient El Shaddai breathing App,but surrounded by sharks, stingrays and infiltrators.
Look at Afghanistan, where infiltration (Jude.1:4) is a strategy, not a tactic. Lord, Send the Light. Keep our men. But God is ABLE to keep us from sensual (v.19) Sharks, stingrays and emergent infiltrators. That is what Jude reminds us this morning. I am vulnerable, but my Able Director is Oscar-worthy! Amen.

Wow, I thought the rejoicing was what we as the saved ones are doing in those verses. I’ve never read this as Jesus rejoicing over me! I suddenly saw God laughing and singing and exquisitly happy to see the man I’d become. He was so pleased, so tickled, so affirming, so profoundly approving and admiring of who He’s helped me to become! Really moving experience- a clearer picture of God as the Father of my spirit. I struggle with Father images … this vision was very healing. God make me that kind of father to my boys, in Jesus’ name.

    Rejoice with..Pro.5:18.
    Rejoice, again I say..Phi.4:4.
These are the two ends of the same spectrum.
In a class there are gifted and average students.
The gifted are a class by themselves!
They can easily grasp abstract concepts, ideas, dreamers like Joseph, in short.
Unto you it is GIVEN to know.. to suffer…Phi.1:29.
But the average needs, demands a little exemplification, concretization, models…
The Rev.14 glorious band is the gifted ones, they have something in their heads..
But the average must labour to excel to the enriching, sublimating, upgrading of their stuff to the higher ORDER, lofty levels instead of hankering after Viagra! The deer panting after the mirage! The poor road-kills!
Life is a glorious quest for meaning. Better a HEADSTART, than put off till the Ecc.12:1-7 terminal condition.
NOW is.. Today is the day of meaning.. (2Cor.6:2), get it with all your getting.Eph.5:32. Lord of love, cherish me; nourish me today. NOW. Amen.

    Hi Chris,

Thank you for your post here. I was wondering if you believed the Christian has responsibility in keeping themselves from falling?

I spent a lot of time in Psalm 119 today, and one of the verses that is coming to mind is Psalm 119:9, “How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word.” This verse seems to imply a responsibility to the person seeking after the Lord to me.

Thank you again, and I just wanted to preface this question with the fact, that although we may have different opinions on this subject, I am genuinely interested in your response, and this is by no means an attack.

    Wiht love and grace, Cory.
