Jesus "Gave Himself For…"

Posted on March 26, 2012 Posted by Blue Letter Bible

We have a God who gives, and He gives the greatest gift of all—namely, Himself.

There are seven places in the New Testament where the words “Gave Himself for,” are distinctly associated with Christ’s substitutionary work. In each case the Greek preposition, “Huper,” translated “for,” occurs. “Huper” means to act on behalf of another,as acting in the stead of him, in other words a substitute.

Why did Christ die?

  1. To pay the ransom price. “…gave himself a ransom for all” (1 Timothy 2:6).
  2. To bear our sins. “gave himself for our sins” (Galatians 1:4).
  3. To stand in our place. “gave himself for me” (Galatians 2:20).
  4. To have us for Himself. “gave himself up for her” (Ephesians 5:25).
  5. To make us acceptable to God. “gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God” (Ephesians 5:2).
  6. To redeem us from all lawlessness. “who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness…” (Titus 2:14).
  7. To remind us of our obligation to Him. “This is my body, which is given for you” (Luke 22:19-20).

WOW, I just saw a guy wearing a black sweater that said, in big white letters, “GAL 2:20″, which is…I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and GAVE HIMSELF for me.”

Thank You Jesus Christ for dying for me and with my old self, and for resurrecting and giving birth to the new me…

The LORD is M Y shepherd…Son of God , who loved ME, and gave himself for ME. This fiercely personal nature of piety is unique to Christianity alone , I suppose. God, love of God is chasing , wooing ME as if I am the only human being on the face of this earth. My God is much more greater than Romeo! This is MY story.. It’s all about ME.
    Grace be with you all.

Truly LORD JESUS you are GOD and our savior
Thank you so much for that which you suffered
How can we become your people

Mark 1:14&15 Now after that John was put into prison JESUS came into Galilee preaching the gospel of the kingdom of GOD
    (15) And saying the time is fulfilled and the kingdom of GOD is at hand REPENT ye and believe the GOSPEL

1 Corinthians 15:3&4 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I received
how that CHRIST died for our sins according to the scriptures
    (4) And that HE was buried and that HE rose again the third day according to the scriptures

Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of GOD and HIS righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you

Romans 14:17 For the kingdom of GOD is not about meat and drink but righteousness and peace and joy in the holy spirit

Luke 8:21 And HE answered and said unto them MY mother and My brethren are these which hear the word of GOD and do it

Hebrews 5:9 And being made perfect HE became the author of eternal salvation
UNTO ALL THEM THAT OBEY HIM

2 Timothy 3:16 ALL SCRIPTURE is given by inspiration of GOD and is profitable for doctrine for reproof for correction for instruction in righteousness

1 John 3:10 IN this the children of GOD are manifest and the children of the devil whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of GOD neither he that loveth not his brother

How can we have salvation and eternal life O LORD and be saved

Romans 10:9 That if you confess with thy mouth the LORD JESUS and shalt believe in thine heart that GOD hath raised HIM from the dead thou shalt be saved

Matthew 15:7&8 You hypocrites well did Isaiah prophesy of you saying
    (8) THIS PEOPLE DRAWETH NIGH UNTO ME WITH THEIR MOUTH AND HONORETH ME WITH LIPS BUT THEIR HEART IS FAR FROM ME

John 7:38 He that believeth on me as the scripture hath said out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water

Isaiah 12:2&3 Behold GOD is my salvation I will trust and not be afraid for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song he also is become my salvation
    (3) Therefore with joy shall you draw water out of the wells of salvation

John 4:13&14 JESUS answered and said unto her whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again
    (14) But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into eternal life

Ephesians 5:25&26 Husbands love your wives even as CHRIST also loved the church and gave himself for it
    (26) That HE might sanctify it with the washing of water by the word

John 6:38 Then Simon Peter answered HIM LORD to whom shall we go —–THOU hast the words of eternal life

Mark 8:35 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it but whosoever shall lose his life for MY sake and the GOSPELS the same shall save it

John 5:34 But I receive not testimony from man but these things I say that you might be saved

    Loving the LORD JESUS CHRIST

    Why did Christ die?
That He might present to himself a glorious Church- The Bride – The Manchild!
His birth, death, burial, resurrection, everything was ACCORDING TO THE SCRIPTURES.
Lord, let my life be in sync with the scriptures. You are the Wonderful Director(Isa.45:13; 61:8).
Note the same order, sequence in Rom.14:17 & Heb.7:2 first… and after that… That’s interesting indeed. Lord, thank you for your nourishing and cherishing. Grace and peace be with you all.
    Poor and needy one,
    mathew
