How would you describe the gospel? Here are a few answers from the pen of F.E. Marsh (a commentary that is coming soon to the Blue Letter Bible).
- Divine Gospel. “Separated unto the Gospel of God” (Romans 1:1).
- Gracious Gospel. “To testify the Gospel of the grace of God” (Acts 20:24).
- Wondrous Gospel. “The beginning of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God” (Mark 1:1).
- Life-giving Gospel. “In Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the Gospel” (1 Cor. 4:15).
- Saving Gospel. “The Gospel of your salvation” (Eph. 1:13).
- Peace-securing Gospel. “Your feet shod with the preparation of the Gospel of peace” (Eph. 6:15).
- Full Gospel. “I shall come in the fulness of the blessing of the Gospel of Christ” (Rom. 15:29).
- Powerful Gospel. “I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God unto salvation” (Rom. 1:16).
- Practical Gospel. “Only let your conversation be as it becometh the Gospel of Christ” (Phil. 1:27).
- Glorious Gospel. “Lest the light of the glorious Gospel of Christ” (2 Cor. 4:4).
- Everlasting Gospel. “Having the everlasting Gospel to preach unto them” (Rev. 14:6).
What about you? Fill in the blank. How would you describe the gospel? Leave it in the comments below, and be sure to use Scripture!

We can welcome it as good news or we can run from it but the kingdom of God is at hand!

January 19, 2012 at 8:03 amThe Saving Gospel:
I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. Romans 1:16
My prayer today: that I, in all of my inadequacy and failing, be able to declare the salvation of God in my life and how God still has that power of salvation for everyone.
Thanks, Blue Letter Bible. This is a good blog today!

January 19, 2012 at 8:36 amThe LOVING gospel:
The ‘good news’ that the most mighty, wonderful, infinite, omnipotent, powerful, etc. etc. creator of everything that exists – loved a ‘wretched’ creature such as we are enough to find a way, not only to forgive us, justify us, and remake us, but also to adopt us into his family if we would only listen. That is Love. That is Good news. That is the Gospel.

January 19, 2012 at 10:52 amThe Gospel is the death, burial, and ressurection of Jesus, the Christ or Messiah.
1Co 15:1-4 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; (2) By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. (3) For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; (4) And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
We relate to the death, burial, and resurrection by obeying the gospel which was preach. What did Peter and Paul preach?
Act 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
As the believer in any church submits their will in repentance, they die like Christ. Baptism, by imersian, invoking the name of Jesus, is the beleiver’s burial. The gift of the Holy Spirit (Ghost), is the believer’s resurection. (Acts 2:1-4, John 3:8)

January 19, 2012 at 1:33 pm2Tim 2:15 in rightly dividing the word of truth:
We realize we are saved by faith as the apostle Paul proclaims in 1Cr 15:1-4. Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe, Rom. 3:22
We are to cast off the works of darkness, Rom. 13:12 and put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, Rom 13:14.
We are to awake to righteous and sin not, 1Cor. 15:34, We are called to walk in the Spirit, Gal. 5:16. And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that you might be filled with all the fullness of God. Eph. 3:19.
This gospel is the Gospel that Our Lord has committed to Paul to bring to the world after Jesus had accomplished our redemption through his death, burial and resurrection. We know these things because our God has given to us His Spirit to dwell in us and to lead us and reveal the mysteries hidden in time, now to believers. Rom. 8:9 , Rom. 8:14 , 1Cor. 2:7-10 Duet. 29:29
Our Lord Jesus came to his own, the Jews. They were looking for their promised messiah. Luke 1:67-71 The apostles, even after the resurrection, before they were given the Holy Spirit, still looked for the restoration of the Kingdom of Israel. Acts 1:6. Jesus came as a servant to redeem them from sin, separation from God. The Jews were under the Law, the Ten Commandments and therefore they were called upon to repent and be baptized. It was necessary that they recognize their transgressions against God’s laws and repent.
The gentiles were never given the Law. Although we recognize it as of God, we are not saved by it. Paul was sent by the Lord to us, bringing the gospel of the love of God. We are to believe, and enjoy that glorious liberty of the children of God. Rom. 8:21 and stand fast in it. Gal. 5:1 Jesus has brought us peace with God. Rom. 5:1 Eph. 2:14

January 23, 2012 at 1:16 pmThe Lord Jesus came as Messiah in the line of David as prophecised in the scriptures. He came proclaiming the Kingdom of God, Israel’s king was in their midst. Mat 4:17 But first he had to deal with the problem of sin that separated his people from God, Mat 1:21 and the religious system that had bent the things of God to accomodate themselves.
The Jews require a sign, 1Cor 1:22 and the Lord showed them many signs and miracles again according to the scriptures and many did not believe who He was. The Jews under the law were called to repent and believe on the name of Jesus, that he was sent by God. They refused him and crucified him as foretold in the scriptures. The gospel of the kingdom was not brought to the gentiles but to the house of Israel. Mat 10:5-6 They refused their king and refused this gospel. But in understanding the scriptures and knowing the word of God is sure, we know the Lord will come again with his saints 1Thes 3:13 to establish this kingdom on earth in coming days although we do not know the day or the hour. Mat 24:36
This rejection of their messiah has become our blessing as God has brought in the gentile in a whole new way, these are the mysteries 1Cor 2:7 that Paul writes of and is our joy to learn of. We are brought in through the gospel of grace. We need not look to the law for justification, nor offer animal sacrifices or cut off limbs that offend us or circumcise adults or do those many things that that are required of the Jew under law. We have liberty under grace to appreciate our righteous yet loving God through the work of our Lord Jesus.
Knowing this we can separate and understand The Lord Jesus’ words to the Jews and the king and kingdom that they rejected, and his revelations of the gospel of grace to the apostle Paul. Rom 11:13 For we are his heavenly people, citizens of a better place. Phil 3:20
The words of Jesus given us in the four gospels are more easily understood, appreciated and applied to our lives today when we can rightly divide to whom these words are spoken. Are they to the jews before his face or eternal words of love to us all. consider Rom 15:4
