Different characteristics of Christ which appear for us in Hebrews 9 & 10.
As the Substitute, to suffer
“so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.”
(Hebrews 9:28)
Christ did not need to die again and again for each individual. He represented all of God’s children, from every age, as the perfect and complete Substitute.
As the Saviour, to deliver
“…but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.”
(Hebrews 9:28)
Our sins were laid on Him, so that we would bear them no more.
As the Willing One in obedience
“Consequently, when Christ came into the world, he said, ‘Sacrifices and offerings you have not desired, but a body have you prepared for me; in burnt offerings and sin offerings you have taken no pleasure. Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come to do your will, O God, as it is written of me in the scroll of the book.” When he said above, ‘You have neither desired nor taken pleasure in sacrifices and offerings and burnt offerings and sin offerings’ (these are offered according to the law), then he added, ‘Behold, I have come to do your will.’ He does away with the first in order to establish the second.”
(Hebrews 10:5-9)
Christ obtained what He came to accomplish. The Son accepted the will and purpose of the Father—to serve as a sacrifice for the sins of God’s people.
As the Sanctifier, to separate
“And by that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.”
(Hebrews 10:10)
God sanctifies us through the perfect offering of the body of Jesus Christ.
As the Sin-offering, to save
“And every priest stands daily at his service, offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God,”
(Hebrews 10:11-12)
Christ offered the single and final sacrifice for all sins. There is no need to add to the sacrifice or repeat it in service. As our Lord said in his last seconds on that cross: “It is finished.”

December 13, 2011 at 7:27 amWhat a beautiful way to finish today’s post – a reminder to all of us that for every sin that has been confessed and surrendered to our Savior, the Lord has said “It is finished”. Finished is condemnation, guilt, and shame – how different is that from what the world has to offer. We are free to simply rejoice in Him! How mighty is our Savior!
I am so grateful that though He faced the cross with anguish and tears, He still thought of you and me, and completed His purpose on earth. Praise you King Jesus, You have won my heart and you are worthy of my all.

December 13, 2011 at 9:07 amYes; Jesus is God and yes, Jesus is Human transformed into Eternal spirit. As the “Word” of God he could not die for incorruption can never inherit corruption. But when the word of God put on flesh and bone, He was born into corruption, death and Decay was now possible for Him. But He was still the Creator of the Universe, the God that wants to make man in His Image and likeness.
If He were just a Human, then His death could only atone for the life of another human being. But because He is the Eternal Creator God as well, then His life has an Eternal Value. His death can atone for all the sins ever commited for there is no Value to Eternity. If Jesus had sinned in His life then His death on the Cross would have been meaninless for all of creation, but because of His Perfect God Nature and His perfect sinless life as a Human, He can atone for all the souls that could ever be created and born on this or “any other” world. He could fight the battle against sin in His life where we could not and win, and His death then has an Eternal and Perfect Atonement for all mankind.
I praise you Jesus with so much thanks and love, that you stood in our place and died the death that we warranted. You love us even when we hated you so that through your goodness and mercy we may live and become that which you and the Father desire; To be in your image and likeness just as you are the expressed image of the Father who also loves us more then enough to allow the death of His own dear Son so that who ever may believe and Obey might be saved from that Eternal Death that we deserve.
Thank Jesus for being our Eternal Sacrifice! I truly love you for all that you did and do and all that you are!

December 13, 2011 at 1:40 pmBut now I have a question to pose.
If the Sacrifice that Jesus made was a very real Sacrifice. That is to say that His death was for real because He was born into a Corruptable portion of creation; And if He had not commited any sin in His life that would warrant the Death Penalty pronounced at the Garden of Eden, Then would Jesus had continued to grow old and Die of old age eventually, if He hypothethically speaking, He did not go to the Cross and die for us then?
This should make a good topic for discussion.

His death then has an Eternal and Perfect Atonement for all mankind.
Jesus stood in our place and died the death that we warranted. Jesus loves us so much so that through his goodness and mercy we may live and become that which Jesus and the Father desire;
