Here are just a few things we are to do with the word of God:
1. Receive the Word with meekness, and thus be saved—by grace—from all wickedness.
“…receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls” (James 1:21).
2. Let it dwell in us richly, that we may teach one another and break forth in praise.
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God” (Colossians 3:16).
3. Keep it, and thus have His love perfected in us.
“but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him” (1 John 2:5).
4. Continue in it, that it may be manifest that we are His disciples indeed, not counterfeit Christians.
“So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed in him, ‘If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples'” (John 8:31).
5. Hold it fast, that God may be able to use our witness to rebuke those who don’t walk in holiness.
“He must hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also to rebuke those who contradict it” (Titus 1:9).
6. Be doers of it, and not deceive ourselves by thinking that hearing is enough without the doing.
“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves” (James 1:22).
7. Speak it out boldly, that the Lord may be honoured by our witness.
“And most of the brothers, having become confident in the Lord by my imprisonment, are much more bold to speak the word without fear” (Philippians 1:14).
8. Hold it forth faithfully, by living it out truly, and not vainly.
“holding fast to the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain” (Philippians 2:16).
What about you? Would you add anything else to this list?

November 9, 2011 at 7:30 amThis lesson brought back so many thoughts in my Spirit – times in which the Holy Spirit taught me the object of the scripture in a life situation. I believe one of the things that takes us far too long to learn as Christians is simply this:
God really is who He says He is!
Have a blessed day!

“Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.”
In the record leading to this verse we see Jesus Christ speaking to some pharisees who sought to kill him for healing a man on the Sabbath and saying God was his father. The pharisees considered themselves quite righteous for their law based and outwardly religious activities, however they could not see the truth of who the Christ was through the fog of their arrogance.
Here, his advice was for them to go to the very scriptures that they had been picking through in order to condemn others and justify themselves to find the prophecies of himself; the Christ. For it is only through the son of God that a person is made righteous and may receive eternal life.
Throughout the gospels it is evident that the pharisees, who where the religious leaders of their times, weren’t concerned with living nor teaching truth, but rather with their station, with how they appeared to others and with their own ideas backed up by conveniently placed verses. We would be wise to search the scriptures that testify of the Christ and choose to believe God’s truth over man’s concoctions of right living that contradict God’s word.
Acts 17:11
“These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.”
It is right to readily receive the word of God that is taught to us; however, it is important to search the scriptures to make sure that what we are being taught is accurate according to God’s Word. A person, regardless of how ‘religious’ they may seem may or may not speak the truth. Our responsibility is to look beyond appearances and into the Word of God to make sure that we are accepting truth and not man’s opinion of it.
