Augustine of Hippo (354 – 430):
Mankind is divided into two sorts: such as live according to man, and such as live according to God. These we call the two cities…. The Heavenly City outshines Rome. There, instead of victory, is truth.
From St. Augustine’s classic work, The City of God
What about you? What city are you living in? Are you living—ultimately—in the city of God? Or are you living—ultimately—in the city of man?

March 5, 2011 at 1:24 amWhen I was 14 going on 15 in Aug 75, and ‘a sinner’ very much living in the City. I had gone with my parents on vacation, camping also with us, were my Aunt and Uncle. We went up through New York State,(watkins glenn), and over to Niargra Falls, Canada.
It was the first day at the falls, (around lunch time) when a young man approached me, he walked up to me and asked if I would like to meet Jesus Christ one day? I said, Yes, I’d like to meet Jesus, and he told me ‘ In order for you to do that, you have to be ‘born again’ or you can’t enter the kingdom of God’, where Jesus is. I told him I went to church, and all…? I never heard anyone talk about being born again though lol! He smiled and said, yes I know, but you still have to be born again to go to heaven! (I had a lot of things going through my thoughts that I wanted to say to him about why and all, but for my shyness I just wouldn’t talk about it or even think of bring up to a really nice looking guy like him.
Tell him the reason’s of why I didn’t attend sunday school, out of fear of reading out loud in front of class? I just couldn’t bring that all out! But, I did go to church and I wanted so much to be allowed to take the bread and wine, *I thought that would get me closer to the Lord, and I recall thinking that I was a really bad sinner for going up and doing that too). I didn’t tell the man about my thoughts though, one of the first things I thought of was it was lunch time and he was a preacher, so I asked him if he needed money, lol, and he said, No! (smiling), You don’t need money to enter the kingdom of God. mmm, I though, I smiled and was thinking to my self… I never heard a preacher talk like this, and recall my dad saying that if someone was preaching to you that you should test/question them to make sure that they’re teaching/preaching the truth about Jesus… Then he asked me if I wanted to say a prayer, accept Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior and become Born Again! I said YES! He leaded me in a short prayer and it was like right out of the bible. I recall his smile …He was very handsome, too! When He asked me if I had any other questions? I thought of what my dad said, and asked him the question that popped into my mind…. “So, Do you know when Jesus is coming back? (it was something I knew that if he said a date, he’d be wrong,)! He said, No man knows the time or hour when Christ will return, but only the Father in Heaven knows when that will be…but Christ/He will be coming soon!
🙂 yeah that is right!! No one will know only God the Father and it said in the book of Rev. That Jesus will be coming soon! He smiled, and asked if I had anything else I need to know? I asked him once again. Are you sure you don’t want any money? (I wanted to buy him lunch or a drink), He said no thank you, I don’t need money to enter the kingdom of heaven. then, I again, said all I have to do is be ‘ Born Again in order to meet Jesus ?’ He said Yes!! I felt so wonderful and Loved, It was so wonderful! It totally changed my thinking about Jesus Christ, He was my savior that came to save me, and died on the cross and was coming soon to take me to heaven.
I still needed him to help me change. but I knew he would never gave up on me!! drugs drinking running with the wrong crowd,(3 yrs of my life were wasted), (after I said thank you to that young guy, and he walked past me, I turned ( he was very cute) but he vanished, he just wasn’t there) We were standing in the middle of the street too! I entered the stores on the side of the road there and looked for him and when I came out I spotted my dad and mom, aunt, and uncle I ran over to them and told them all that was going on, 😉 my mother and Aunt listen to the entire thing, and told me that I was talking to my guardian Angel… after we left the falls area., my father had a blow out on the right front tire of his car. And we were crossing a bridge which was in America, heading back to the camp where we were staying. This was so incredible too! The tire was shot out by someone under the bridge, the gas station attend told my dad, You’re one lucky family mister!! The rim of the tire was pushed up with a hole though the medal. And a truck doing about 70 was right behind us. We could have gone flying off the bridge but my dad held the wheel tight! It was really something that I’ll never forget, Ever! We all could have died that day! But Jesus sent an angel and to tell me and my family about the Love of Christ! And what we needed to be in order to go to heaven.
I was 14, Christ never left my side, and made me a better person though out my life., just knowing how much he loves me, makes me smile. I was a very shy kid,( I still have that shyness) I wasn’t the best student in school and asked Him to help me with all the troubles I had. And, He did, and when I was 18, I went to live in New England,it was his prompting, getting me away from a fellow that wanted to marry me. I knew the Lord didn’t want me to get involved with him too. He softly told me in a dream, when you see him, tell him that You are ‘born again’ and you’re moving to New England. Didn’t really want to go to New England, but I knew that Lord wanted me there, and he got me out of the City! 😉 How’s that for a Lord and Savior! I met and married my husband a yr later and we’re married 31 yrs now! With three wonderful kids that heard this story and are believer’s in Christ also.
All of whom are loved! And my husband, he also became born again soon after we were married.
So, when you asked me where it was that I live,(thinking of all that I had lived through), I can say with a smile on my face, I live in the City of God…. where Jesus Christ is my King, and my Savior! Forever!!
Psalm 84
How amiable are thy tabernacles, O LORD of hosts!
2 My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God.
3 Yea, the sparrow hath found an house, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, even thine altars, O LORD of hosts, my King, and my God.
4 Blessed are they that dwell in thy house; they will be still praising thee. Se-lah.
5 Blessed is the man whose strength is in thee; in whose heart are the ways of them.
6 Who passing through the valley of Ba-ca make it a well; the rain also filleth the pools.
7 They go from strenght to strenght, every one of them in Zion appeareth before God.
8 O LORD God of hosts, hear my prayer; give ear, O God of Jacob. Se-lah.
9 Behold, O God our shield, and look upon the face of thine anointed.
10 For a day in thy courts is better then a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, then to dwell in the tents of the wickedness.
11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD will give grace and glory; no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.
12 O LORD of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.
