Several weeks ago, David Guzik visited us at the Blue Letter Bible offices. He was kind enough to sit down with us and record a collection of short videos covering a range of helpful topics for those serving in ministry.
In today’s video, Guzik answers the question, “How do you prepare a message for teaching?”
His answer: “Spend a lot of time with the text itself… I spend time [in the text] with an emphasis on clarity and simplicity. I don’t come to the text looking for clever things that Ican say about the text. I’m not looking for the magic bullet. I’m just looking for the clear, simple sense of the text. That’s what needs to be impressed upon my heart so that I can impress it upon others in my teaching.”
