In recognition of Passion Week, we will post the Scriptural narrative from Christ’s triumphal entry on Palm Sunday to His death and resurrection, all throughout the week. For a full list of Scriptures, or for more Passion Week resources, visit our website.
Palm Sunday
Christ enters Jerusalem (Luke 19:28-44).
The Triumphal Entry
28 And when he had said these things, he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem. 29 When he drew near to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount that is called Olivet, he sent two of the disciples, 30 saying, “Go into the village in front of you, where on entering you will find a colt tied,on which no one has ever yet sat. Untie it and bring it here. 31 If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ you shall say this: ‘The Lord has need of it.’” 32 So those who were sent went away and found it just as he had told them. 33 And as they were untying the colt, its owners said to them, “Why are you untying the colt?” 34 And they said, “The Lord has need of it.” 35 And they brought it to Jesus, and throwing their cloaks on the colt, they set Jesus on it. 36 And as he rode along, they spread their cloaks on the road. 37 As he was drawing near—already on the way down the Mount of Olives—the whole multitude of his disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen, 38 saying, “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” 39 And some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples.” 40 He answered,“I tell you, if these were silent, the very stones would cry out.”
Jesus Weeps over Jerusalem
41 And when he drew near and saw the city, he wept over it, 42 saying,“Would that you, even you, had known on this day the things that make for peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes. 43 For the days will come upon you, when your enemies will set up a barricade around you and surround you and hem you in on every side 44 and tear you down to the ground, you and your children within you. And they will not leave one stone upon another in you, because you did not know the time of your visitation.”
Monday
The second cleansing of the temple (Matthew 21:12-17):
Jesus Cleanses the Temple
12 And Jesus entered the temple and drove out all who sold and bought in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those who sold pigeons. 13 He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you make it a den of robbers.”
14 And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple, and he healed them. 15 But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying out in the temple,“Hosanna to the Son of David!” they were indignant, 16 and they said to him, “Do you hear what these are saying?” And Jesus said to them, “Yes ;have you never read,
“‘Out of the mouth of infants and nursing babies
you have prepared praise’?”

March 26, 2013 at 4:13 amGod through Isaiah told wicked King Ahaz to fear Him and not Judah’s enemies and then He would become their sanctuary. (Isa. 8:13-14). Ahaz thought he had a better idea. The Lord Jesus became the very embodiment of Isaiah’s command when He cleansed the Temple. Like Ahaz, the religious leaders of Jesus’ day had no use for a God they could not control.

March 27, 2013 at 2:20 amIn Mark 11:15-17 Jesus clears the temple of robbers. At this point Jesus ceases to be just a curiosity and becomes a real threat to the establishment of Jewish authority. They had to make a choice- accept Him as the new authority or get rid of Him. Jesus chose the time and place of this showdown. In the next verse, we see their immediate response. In an attempt to trick Jesus they asked Him by what authority He was acting. His response was epic.
Everyone is faced with the question of the truth or the lie. For the Jews, the lie was that they were in charge. The reality was that Jesus was in charge. For us the question is if we are in charge of our lives or is Jesus in authority. We may choose truth and in so doing relinquish all authority to our lives to Jesus and do as He commands with the result being eternal life or we can go our own way to destruction. Either way Jesus lets us choose.
Lord, help my faith that I may choose forgiveness and life and life according to your word. AMEN

March 27, 2013 at 3:39 amThe Chief Priests & Scribes knew the truth about what was written and what was happening.
That is what they did was Study and Know the Tanakh. Thier corrupted hearts and the desire to keep thier status, power and control kept them from acknowledging it….
Good for me, as Christ has Risen. We are have Life Eternal because of this. What a wonderful script our father wrote in our behalf. All mankind who believe and confess He is.
