Amy Carmichael understood the Great Commission and lived it out. At a young age, she answered God’s call to the mission field and set sail to India, where she would spend the 50 years serving the church\u2014the rest of her life. While in India, Carmichael founded the Dohnavur Fellowship, a refuge for child sex slaves\u2014children unwanted by their parents and sold to the temple.<\/p>\n

Amy Carmichael loved the people of India and the children that she ministered to. She became an adoptive mother to them, and they affectionately called her “Amma.”<\/p>\n

Carmichael also wrote poems, hymns, and prayers. I love this prayer of hers:<\/p>\n

From prayer that asks that I may be
\nsheltered from winds that beat on Thee;
\nfrom fearing when I should aspire;
\nfrom faltering when I should climb higher;
\nfrom silken self, O Captain, free
\nThy soldier who would follow Thee.
\nFrom subtle love of softening things;
\nfrom easy choices, weakenings.
\nNot thus are spirits fortified;
\nnot this way went the Crucified.
\nFrom all that dims Thy Calvary,
\nO Lamb of God, deliver me.
\nGive me the love that leads the way,
\nthe faith that nothing can dismay,
\nthe hope no disappointment tire,
\nthe passion that will burn like fire.
\nLet me not sink to be a clod;
\nmake me Thy fuel, flame of God.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
